What types of databases are available?

Two people lifting boxes

There are two main types of databases:

  • Bibliographic Databases with Abstracts
  • Full Text Databases

Bibliographic Databases with Abstracts:
These databases provide enough information for you to find the journal article or other record; they do not include the full text of the article. The ERIC database is an example of a bibliographic database with abstracts.

In this example, you would need to go to page 198 in volume 4, number 4 of the December 1997 edition of Teaching Children Mathematics to get the article. The record’s abstract only provides you with a summary.
